Awarded an outstanding 98 Parker Points, this vintage confirms Tignanello’s status among the world’s elite red wines.

The 2021 growing season in Tuscany was marked by a balanced climate with warm, sunny days and cool nights, allowing for slow, even ripening. The result is a wine of remarkable precision and harmony. Predominantly Sangiovese, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it reveals vibrant aromas of ripe red cherry, blackberry and violet, layered with hints of cedar, tobacco and refined spice. On the palate, it is structured yet polished, with silky tannins, fresh acidity and a long, poised finish. This is a vintage with exceptional ageing potential.

Marchesi Antinori is one of Italy’s most historic and influential wine families, with over 600 years of winemaking heritage spanning 26 generations. In the 1970s, the Antinori family revolutionised Italian wine by creating Tignanello — boldly blending Sangiovese with Bordeaux varieties and ageing the wine in small oak barrels. This innovative approach helped define the Super Tuscan movement and permanently elevated Tuscany’s global reputation.

Tignanello 2021 is both a tribute to tradition and a modern icon — powerful, elegant and unmistakably Tuscan.

____

First made in 1971, this legendary Italian wine now celebrates its 50th birthday. Happy Birthday, Tignanello! The Marchesi Antinori 2021 Tignanello (made with 79% Sangiovese, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc) pulls on all the heartstrings. To be released in May, the wine shows a quintessentially pretty taste profile with tart fruit flavors, redcurrant, tea leaf, heritage rose, crushed white pepper, licorice, nutmeg, clove and chopped mint. It opens slowly to reveal more richness and exuberance with time, becoming downright voluptuous and heady a short while later. The through line, however, remains the bright freshness and minerality of Sangiovese. Compared to the 2018 vintage (which I also loved), this vintage has more overall fruit weight and volume: 98 points.
Reviewed by Monica Larner from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.

Category:

Red wine from Tuscany, Italy

Producer:

Marchesi Antinori

Estate:

(Tenuta) Tignanello

Extra information:

79% Sangiovese, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc

Region/Appellation:

Italy, Tuscany

Country hierarchy:

Toscana IGT

Vintage:

2021

Strength:

14.5%

Size:

750 ml (75 cl)

Included original case:

No, single bottles

Condition:

The bottles are in perfect condition (new)

Good investment:

Yes and drinkable

Robert Parker rating:

98/100

Drink date:

Drink now, until at least 2048

Extra information:

-

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0913/0537/8120/files/Tignanello_2021_-_Marchesi_Antinori_red_wine_98_parker_-IMG_7471.jpg?v=1771845504
