"Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois annual tasting, the 2015 Chateau Balac offers tightly wound, almost broody black fruit on the nose with touches of cedar and sous bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, a fine bead of acidity and quite a muscular finish that suggests it will benefit from another three years in bottle. Good potential. Tasted September 2017: 88 Parker Points!"

The grapes are traditionally harvested 100% by hand. After vinification, which is also carried out in the traditional way using modern techniques, the wine is aged in French oak for another 12 months to age. The robe is dark purple with dark fruit aromas such as blackberries and black currants. Fruit predominates, rounded off by light vanilla notes. The tannins are soft and elegant. The taste lingers for a long time.
Just a few kilometers from Pauillac and thus from the Grands Crus Classés is Château Balac, Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois. The Touchais family has held sway here for 3 generations. Originally from Anjou, Joseph Touchais bought this domaine in 1964 or at least what was left of it, because the vineyard had disappeared and the château was completely dilapidated. His son, Luc, takes over from his father in 1973 and continues to replant the vineyard and restore the domaine. A few years later, Château Balac is an estate with 20 hectares of wine value. Since 2005, Lionel Touchais, Luc's son, a graduated oenologist at the University of Bordeaux, has been in charge of the Château. Before taking over from his father, he worked for 10 years at various wineries around the world and gained a wealth of experience there. Now he runs the estate together with his wife Amélie and they continue to perfect the winery. Work in the vineyard and in the cellar never ends. All grapes are picked 100% by hand because that is how the quality can be best monitored, but also with the desire to continue the tradition and to relive the conviviality that comes with it every year. The vinification is done entirely by Lionel himself. For this he combines tradition and innovation to obtain the best possible extraction of aromas and tannins. Every harvest he makes his decisions about quality depending on what nature brings him. Château Balac is known for its very fruity Haut-Médoc with elegant tannins.
