"At the age of twenty, Shinjiro Torii had a dream to create unique Japanese distillates for the whole world to enjoy. In 1899 he opened the Torii Shoten Store, the predecessor of Suntory, and focused on the production of wine, whiskey and cognac. In 1936, the first Suntory gin, Hermes Gin, was also introduced.
Shinjiro Torii spent a lot of time building knowledge about distilling alcohol; for Roku Japanese Craft Gin this now means an expertise of more than 100 years.
Roku Japanese Craft Gin is a Japanese gin whose name is derived from the number of Japanese botanicals used; Roku means "six" in Japanese. The typical Japanese botanicals are sencha and gyokuro green tea, cherry blossom, cherry leaves, yuzu citrus fruits and sansho pepper. To obtain the best flavor of the botanicals and fully embody the blessings of nature, each plant is harvested at the peak of its season. For the cherry blossom this means in the spring, the green tea in the summer, the sansho pepper in the fall and the yuzu citrus fruits in the winter.
Liquor Atelier is Suntory's craft distillery where the Roku Japanese Craft Gin is distilled. There are four different types of pot stills in the distillery to be able to distill each botanical separately. This distillation process ensures that only the best aromas are obtained and individual characteristics are preserved.
Not only the gin gets the full attention; the Roku Japanese Craft Gin bottle is also made with craftsmanship. The hexagonal bottle features the six botanicals in relief and the label is printed on washi paper."
