1 of 200 bottles worldwide

Some whiskies are defined by age, others by artistic expression. This release, the Laphroaig 39 years old from The wall collection, combines both. It stands among the most exceptional bottlings ever produced by the Islay distillery. Only 200 bottles exist, each carrying its own artistic identity created by illustrator Laura Carlin.

This limited edition brings together almost four decades of slow maturation in refill American oak and sherry casks. It represents a refined, softer side of Laphroaig, shaped by time, patience and the natural influences of its coastal location.

A rare expression from a distinctive distillery

Laphroaig is known for its unmistakable character: maritime peat smoke, medicinal depth and bold flavour structure. With age, these sharp edges soften. In this 39-year-old release, the peat has become elegant and quiet, while the whisky itself has developed layers of fruit, oak and gentle sweetness.

Distilled in the early 1980s, it matured through a period of slow oxidation and consistent cask influence. The result is a whisky that balances heritage with remarkable refinement.

The wall collection

The wall collection is a series of three bottles, each accompanied by artwork from Laura Carlin. Her piece for this edition, “Rope,” explores themes of tension, connection and memory. The visual design adds a cultural and artistic dimension that elevates the bottle beyond whisky alone. For collectors, it marks a rare collaboration between a leading distillery and a contemporary artist.

Tasting notes

Nose
Soft maritime peat, antique wood, beeswax, dried fruit, salted caramel and gentle medicinal notes.

Palate
Silky texture with honeyed malt, smoked nuts, old leather, mango, spice and a refined trace of iodine. The peat is subdued and perfectly integrated.

Finish
Long and calm with sea breeze, heather honey, dried citrus and subtle oak tannins.

Why collectors seek this bottle

This release appeals to collectors, investors and connoisseurs for several reasons. Only 200 bottles were produced, making it one of the smallest official Laphroaig releases ever. Aged 39 years, it sits in a category that is already extremely rare for the distillery. The artistic collaboration adds further value and uniqueness, making it desirable beyond its liquid alone. Ultra-aged Islay whiskies have historically shown long-term appreciation, and this bottling fits that trend.

A bottle of exceptional character

The Laphroaig 39 years old – The wall collection “Rope” is a whisky that shows what happens when time transforms intensity into elegance. Whether enjoyed slowly or kept as a long-term collectible, it stands as one of the most remarkable expressions of Laphroaig’s older stock.
