Rare Champagne is the ultimate expression of Piper-Heidsieck’s savoir-faire, produced only in the most exceptional vintages. Each release is a testament to time, patience and precision — a Champagne created to endure and to impress.
The Rare Millésime 2012 is widely regarded as one of the great modern Champagne vintages. Despite challenging climatic conditions early in the season, the year delivered grapes of extraordinary concentration, freshness and balance. The blend, led by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, captures both the power and elegance that define this outstanding harvest.
After extended ageing in the historic chalk cellars of Reims, the wine reveals remarkable depth and complexity. Aromas of ripe citrus, stone fruit and white flowers are layered with notes of toasted brioche, hazelnut and subtle spice. On the palate, it is structured yet refined, with a silky mousse, vibrant acidity and an exceptionally long, mineral-driven finish.
Presented in the iconic Rare Champagne bottle, inspired by 19th-century design and finished with intricate handcrafted detailing, this cuvée reflects both heritage and exclusivity.
The Rare Millésime 2012 is a Champagne of great gastronomic stature. It pairs beautifully with lobster, langoustine, scallops, refined fish dishes or elegant white meats, while its structure and freshness also promise excellent ageing potential for collectors.
Powerful, precise and timeless, Piper-Heidsieck Rare – Millésime 2012 stands as a benchmark vintage Champagne, crafted for those who appreciate depth, longevity and true rarity.
One of the greatest hits from Rare Champagne, the 2012 Rare Millésime is produced from fruit harvested between September 10 and 26. Disgorged in November 2023 with a dosage of eight grams per liter, it is a rich and flamboyant wine that harnesses the season’s maturity to its advantage. It unfurls in the glass with a complex bouquet of crisp pear, freshly baked bread and white flowers, mingling with roasted pineapple, caramelized sugar and a deft touch of smoky reduction. On the palate, it is full-bodied, muscular, ample and textural, with a simultaneously generous but elegant expression of fruit underpinned by succulent yet vibrant acidity and concluding with a long, saline finish tinged with toast. Concentrated but harmonious, it is dangerously drinkable now yet promises a long window of pleasure. The blend is the classic 70% Chardonnay (predominantly from Villers-Marmery) and 30% Pinot Noir: 95+ Parker Points.
