Founded in 1779 on the shores of Loch Indaal, Bowmore is the oldest licensed distillery on Islay and one of Scotland's great historic whisky houses. Three decades of exceptional maturation
Bowmore 30 Years Old 2023 is created from a marriage of American oak ex-bourbon casks and sherry-seasoned European oak hogsheads, each carefully matured over three decades.
What makes the maturation particularly interesting is that approximately half of the whisky underwent an extended finish in first-fill Spanish oak Oloroso sherry casks.
The result is a beautifully layered 30-year-old single malt in which mature oak and sherry influence complement rather than overwhelm Bowmore's celebrated distillery character.
Bottled at 45.9% ABV, its burnished-gold colour introduces an exceptionally expressive whisky.
The nose reveals a rich combination of grilled tropical fruits, ripe pluots, peat smoke and warming oak spice. On the palate, layers of fruit are beautifully balanced by Bowmore's distinctive Islay peat smoke.
The finish is long, complex and elegant, with sweetness and spice gradually fading into lingering tropical fruit and glowing peat embers.
It is quintessential mature Bowmore: tropical, smoky, complex and wonderfully composed.
A presentation inspired by Islay
The exceptional presentation of the Bowmore 30 Years Old 2023 tells another part of its story.
Rather than creating a presentation purely around luxury, Bowmore looked to the landscape surrounding its historic Islay home for inspiration. The design takes its cues from the detailed natural markings found on driftwood and the beautifully polished surfaces of sea glass.
These coastal influences create a visual connection between the whisky and the environment in which Bowmore has been making whisky for centuries.
