Yamazaki 18 Years is an exceptional Japanese single malt that has rested for nearly two decades in carefully selected sherry and ex-bourbon casks. This prolonged maturation in the unique climate of the Yamazaki valley imparts a deep, ruby-like color and a very complex aroma. On the nose sweet vanilla, spicy cardamom and warming cinnamon meet floral hints of hibiscus, while nuances of apple compote and stewed pears provide elegance. The flavor palette is rich and full: manuka honey and oak form the base, complemented by caramelized peaches, hibiscus tea, raspberry jam, apple caramel and a touch of white pepper. The finish is long and layered, with notes of caramel, poached fruit and a delicate tannic structure that slowly fades. Because the distillery uses different cask types, a perfect balance arises between the sweet influence of sherry and the spicy, floral notes of Japanese Mizunara oak. Production of Yamazaki 18 is limited and the annual releases are very much coveted by collectors. This expression is often awarded in international competitions thanks to its harmony of fruit, spice and oak.
